FSU's Fisher: 'We Satellite Right Here In Tallahassee'

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher has decided that the best camp is the one he has on his campus.

That is why his staff will not attend or host any satellite camps this year.

"We satellite right here in Tallahassee," Fisher said on Friday as his own camp wrapped up after attracting a number of high school prospects.

After the NCAA rescinded its ban on satellite camps in April, Fisher said at the Atlantic Coast Conference meetings last month that he was considering sending coaches to camps or holding one of his own. Fisher, who is not a supporter of satellite camps, even went as far as saying that top programs, including his, "can't afford not to" attend satellite camps.

Fisher and Florida State are not outliers among ACC programs in staying off the road this summer. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney also said at the league meetings that they only camp they would be participating in is their own on campus.

Florida State's coaches will use the next four weeks to recharge before preparations for the season ramp up.

With preseason camp set to start in early August, Fisher said that quarterback Sean Maguire, who had surgery on his left ankle in January, is putting weight on it and has started to do some dropping back and throwing. Maguire, who started five games last season, is expected to compete with redshirt freshman Deondre Francois for the starting spots.

Fisher also said that running back Dalvin Cook, who had shoulder surgery in April, is running at full speed and should be ready for preseason camp.

Florida State's season opener is Sept. 5 against Mississippi in Orlando.
