Hundreds Walk Through Farmington Hills For Postpartum Depression Awareness

FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) -- One in every seven mothers -- whether they adopt or give birth -- suffer from postpartum depression.

Hundreds walked in Farmington Hills on Saturday to raise funds for women who deal with the overwhelming condition. Emily Korobkin, who organized the event, say she experienced postpartum depression after her son was born in 2011.

"I felt very overwhelmed, very anxious," Korobkin said. "I experienced a lot of panic attacks."

Every year Korobkin takes part in the Climb out of the Darkness fundraising walk at Heritage Park in Farmington Hills. She wants women to realize they may have postpartum and they are not alone.

"The goal is for us to raise awareness and help people realize when there is something going on to get help and [that] it will get better," Korobkin said.

Korobkin's team of about 50 supporters raised $9,000 toward the effort.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious depressed or you can't stop crying about two weeks after you adopt or give birth to your baby, you should contact your doctor.
