Keith Appling Arrested On Weapons Charge Days Before Court Appearance

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A former Michigan State basketball player is in trouble with the law -- again.

Keith Appling was arrested early Saturday morning on Detroit's east side, just off I-75 and 7 Mile Road, after officers stopped a fast-driving Dodge Charger.

Detroit police Sgt. Michael Woody said officers saw Appling, a passenger, place a weapon under a seat. He was arrested without incident on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon.

It's the 24-year-old's second weapons charge in as many months.

Appling is expected in court in less than a week to answer for previous incident in which he's facing weapons and drug charges. In May, Appling was arrested outside of a Dearborn strip club when cops found two guns and some marijuana in his car. His lawyer says the search wasn't legal. The Friday hearing determines whether he goes to trial.

Appling played for the Spartans from 2010-2014. He had two 10-day contracts with Orlando this season in the NBA and played for the Magic's Erie, Pennsylvania, affiliate in the NBA Development League.
