Teen On Electric Scooter Struck By Police Cruiser

HUNTINGTON WOODS (WWJ) - Authorities say a 14-year-old boy is recovering after being struck by a police car while riding an electric scooter.

The accident happened around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday along Scotia Road near Hart Avenue, just south of 11 Mile Road in Huntington Woods.

Police say an officer was on routine patrol when he struck the teen on the scooter as the youngster crossed Scotia eastbound.

The officer did not have a stop or yield sign and proceeded through the intersection, according to police, while the teen had a stop sign.

The child was transported to Beaumont Hospital for treatment of what police described as minor scrapes and bruises. He was wearing a helmet.

Officials say the investigation has been turned over to the Michigan State Police.
