New 'Transformers' Movie To Begin Filming In Detroit This Week; Extras Needed

DETROIT (WWJ) - Lights, camera, action!

"Transformers: The Last Knight" is set to begin filming this week in Detroit. Sources tell WWJ the cameras will start rolling Thursday in the historic Capital Park area on Griswold Street. Production will be focused around the Farwell Building.

Built in 1915, the Farwell Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 -- but has sat vacant for years, according to Morris Mims, who lives nearby.

"It's very dangerous," Mims told WWJ's Mike Campbell. "There's rats, stray cats, a huge raccoon. He weighs about 80 pounds or more, he runs the block. He's a big, huge raccoon."

The movie is expected to film in Detroit through August, with additional filming to take place in London, Cuba and Iceland.

Actors are still needed to fill extra roles. Those interested should send an email with their headshot and personal details, like weight and height, to transformers5extras@gmail.com. Producers are looking for actors who are 18 and older, but there may be a small opportunity for actors age 16-18.

In the latest installment of "Transformers," two-time Academy Award nominee Mark Wahlberg is returning to reprise his role as Cade Yeager, and Daytime Emmy Awards nominee Peter Cullen returns as the voice of Optimus Prime. Michael Bay will direct..

"Transformers 5" is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 23, 2017. Two additional sequels will be filmed, with release dates of June 8, 2018 and June 28, 2019 respectively.
