Ex-Central Michigan Linebacker Acquitted Of Assault Charges

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) - A former Central Michigan University football player has been found not guilty of punching two women at a Mount Pleasant bar in December.

The Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant reports that an Isabella County jury acquitted Malik Fountain Thursday of assault, aggravated assault and jostling -- all misdemeanors.

Fountain had maintained that he didn't hit any women at the Wayside bar.

He was arrested in April and suspended from the football team. Associate athletic director Rob Wyman says Fountain remains suspended as officials "continue to evaluate this situation."

Fountain is a linebacker from Chicago and has three years of eligibility remaining at Central Michigan. He made 35 solo tackles last season and assisted on 32 more.
