Annual Fireworks Display Celebrates Detroit's Progress

DETROIT (AP) - The annual fireworks display over the Detroit River is billed as a salute to progress made toward Detroit's revival and optimism for the future.

The theme of the Ford Fireworks on Monday is "Go Forward Detroit."

The show by Zambelli Fireworks is produced by The Parade Co. and will include more than 10,000 pyrotechnic effects visible for miles along the river between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario. It's the event's 58th year. Dearborn-based Ford Motor Co. has been the title sponsor since 2013.

Ford and the Yankee Air Museum are organizing a flyover of vintage planes as a military salute.

This year, Ford also will offer free admission to Belle Isle for the first 1,000 vehicles. The island park is among the popular spots for fireworks viewing and you can enter the park area after 2 p.m.

The fireworks are scheduled to begin at 9:48 p.m. [Find more information about the Fireworks - here]
