More Than 1.4M Michigan Travelers Expected To Hit The Road For July 4

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) - AAA says more than 1.4 million people from Michigan will travel 50 miles or more from home during the Independence Day weekend.

The auto club says Monday that's a 1.5 percent increase from the number from Michigan who traveled last year and would be the highest travel volume for the holiday weekend in 13 years. Most plan to travel in a personal vehicle.

This year, the holiday travel period is Thursday through July 4. It comes as AAA says gas prices are the lowest in 11 years. It would be the second-highest travel volume on record for the holiday behind 2003, when there were nearly 1.5 million travelers.

Dearborn-based AAA Michigan says peak travel times for Michigan motorists will be Friday afternoon and the afternoon of the Fourth of July.
