Brown Lawns Dot The Landscape As Hot Weather Continues

DETROIT (WWJ) - The endless field of green on the golf courses may leave you green with envy but the seemingly endless dry weather is cause for concern as people watch their lawns slowly brown.

While there's a vast difference between maintaining a golf course and taking care of your own lawn -- Glen Oaks Golf Course in Farmington Hills is green and Doug Ammon tells WWJ's Laura Bonnell one of the tricks of the trade.

"We have an irrigation system -- pump out of artisan wells and double creek," said Ammon. "We are maintaining our grass on a daily basis -- you know, we are on top of it from spring all the way to fall."

The course is watered late at night and early in the morning.

Ammon says one of the keys to maintaining your lawn is to start early -- water in the spring -- but if you've missed that portion of lawn care you won't lose your lawn.

"The grass isn't dead - the is normal and in the Midwest area -- it's just dormant, that's what it does and the grass will just shut down and collect all its carbohydrates to protect itself from dying."
