Murder Conviction Overturned Due To Computer Glitch

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - A man whose conviction was overturned after 15 years in prison will be deported to Mexico after pleading no contest to second-degree murder.

Antonio Garcia-Dorantes appeared in court in Grand Rapids before being turned over to federal authorities. The Grand Rapids Press says he told the judge, "God bless America."

Garcia-Dorantes was accused of killing a man during a street fight in 2000. He apologized to the victim's family Tuesday.

His conviction was overturned because a computer problem reduced the number of jury notices in minority neighborhoods.

Garcia-Dorantes says his goal is "to get out and help the community."
