Secretary Of State Expands MI-TIME Appointment System

LANSING (WWJ) - It's no one's favorite activity: Heading to the Secretary of State's office to get new tags or update an expired license.

It's a little easier now, as State secretary Ruth Johnson announces an expansion of the state's MI-TIME appointment scheduling service to six new offices.

The program has been in 18 Secretary of State PLUS offices and will be expanded to six more including one in Howell and Traverse City offices next month, for a total of 24 of the busiest offices wired for convenience — many of them in metro Detroit.

Secretary of State Ruth Johnson explains the system allows you to make an appointment ahead of time and hold your spot in line at the office while you get other things done.

"Go online (HERE) or call the number (888-SOS-MICH) and we'll tell you how long the wait is and put you in line so that you can still be at home, at work, you can be at the beach — wherever you want,  and we'll put you in line and tell you how long it's gonna take," she said.

Or you can just show up to an office, punch your info in at the kiosk, go run some errands, and you'll get a text when you should head back.
