Police: Michigan Mom Jailed After Driving Drunk With Child In Car

HOLLY TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A 36-year-old Flint-area woman has been arrested after police say she was driving drunk with a child in her car.

After the woman was allegedly spotted swerving across the lanes of South Dixie Highway near Perryville Road in Holly Township, Tuesday evening, Michigan State Police say troopers with the Metro North post tried to pull her over — but she initially ignored the lights and sirens.

After continuing for about a mile down the road, police said, the woman parked on the side of the road and troopers found there was a child "who appeared to be very frightened" in the backseat.

Police said the woman smelled strongly of alcohol and fell a few times when she complied with troopers' request to get out of her car.

She was given several field sobriety tests — which she couldn't perform, police said. She was arrested and consented to a blood test.

The child was turned over to family members. No one was injured.

The woman, a resident of Burton — west of Flint, in Genesse County — remains lodged at the Oakland County Jail as she awaits formal charges. Her name has not been released.
