Cooling Centers Open In Detroit Amid Sweltering Summer Heat
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Cooling centers are open in Detroit to offer residents a place to escape summer heat.
The Detroit Parks & Recreation Department and the Detroit Public Library have cooling centers available that provide air-conditioned comfort and protection from the heat. Temperatures are expected to rise Thursday into the 90s and be in the 80s through the weekend.
Officials caution that the elderly and the very young are most susceptible to heat and heat-related illness, especially when temperatures rise above 90 degrees.
