Police Arrest Man After Assaults On Traverse City Homeless

TRAVERSE CITY (AP) - Police say they've arrested a man suspected of assaulting a group of homeless people sleeping behind a Traverse City church.

Traverse City police Chief Jeff O'Brien says officers arrested a 19-year-old Kingsley man Thursday on suspicion of aggravated assault. The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports the man is suspected of assaulting the group behind Central United Methodist Church.

Police say another person may have been involved in the assaults. One homeless man was hospitalized afterward.

Police say they're also investigating after a caller Wednesday reported four to five teenage boys ran twice through the homeless group as they slept, lighting off fireworks and throwing gravel.

O'Brien says he suspects that's related to the assaults.
