Police Say 71-Year-Old Dies After Attack By Her Own Pit Bull

DETROIT (AP) - Detroit police say a 71-year-old woman has died after being attacked by her own pit bull.

Sgt. Michael Woody says the attack occurred about 8 p.m. Saturday on the southwest side of the city. Woody says the woman had four dogs. He says the pit bull bit the woman, knocking her down, and then bit her throat, severing her jugular vein. She died at the scene.

Woody says animal control took the pit bull away.

The woman was found by her granddaughter.
