Lions To Work Out Arian Foster

By Will Burchfield
A year after finishing dead last in rushing, the Lions will take a look at a former rushing leader later this week.

Per Adam Schefter, Arian Foster is scheduled to work out for the Lions and Dolphins this week.

The longtime Texan, Foster is coming off a season in which he played just four games thanks to a torn Achilles. Though an undeniably explosive back, the 29-year-old has been slowed by injuries the past three seasons, playing in just 25 of a possible 48 games.

He is a reclamation project at this point in his career.

Still, for a Lions a team with a jumble of question marks at running back and a recent history of stagnancy at that position, Foster may be a gamble worth taking. At the very least, he is worth bringing in for a look.

Though six years removed from his rushing title, Foster ran for over 1200 yards in 2014 while racking up 13 touchdowns in the same number of games. He has proven himself to be a competent pass-catcher, as well, and would certainly add some flavor to the Lions' current rushing outfit.

If signed, it is unclear how Foster would fit in on the  depth chart. It is presumed that Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick are the top two backs, respectively, at the moment, with Stevan Ridley and Zack Zenner filling in behind them. But assuming he could stay healthy, Foster would have a legitimate chance to claim the starter's role.

We'll have more on this story as it develops this week.
