Warren Police Nab 3 Suspects In Dual Smash-And-Grab Robbery Attempts

WARREN (WWJ) - Authorities say a pair of attempted smash-and-grab robberies in Warren could be linked to other similar crimes carried out in recent weeks.

Quick work by police Tuesday morning led to the arrest of three suspects who were caught using a smashed up van to try to steal the ATM from Mike's Market on 9 Mile Road near Van Dyke Avenue.

Police say they responded to the scene after getting a tip from a neighbor who saw the crime in progress. The suspects fled from the scene as officers arrived, sparking a chase which ended nearby along the city's border with Detroit. Three suspects were arrested, while a fourth fled on foot.

As it turns out, the same van was used to smash through the front of the Value Fresh Market, at 10 Mile and Hoover roads, earlier in the morning, according to police. When the suspects were unsuccessful in reaching the grocery store's ATM, they apparently set their sights on the party store.

Police are still looking for the fourth suspect who ran away from the scene. No further description was provided.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 586-574-4700.
