LAPEER, Mich. (AP) - A serial home invader who was confronted by an 11-year-old girl with a shotgun in Lapeer County has been sentenced to at least 25 years in prison.

James Wasson was sentenced Tuesday for a series of robberies. He owes his victims more than $10,000.

Prosecutor Tim Turkelson says Wasson finally was stopped in January 2015 as he tried to flee the county in a van that was loaded with stolen goods. Earlier that day, he had been surprised by a girl with a shotgun at a home in North Branch Township. She was able to describe the vehicle, which was critical information for police.

The prosecutor says the girl's bravery helped put Wasson away "for a long time." He won't be eligible for parole until he's 80.
