Tips Sought After Unidentified Woman Found Critically Injured Behind Detroit Building

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are investigating after a 20-year-old woman was found injured, unconscious and partially nude on the city's west side.

Captain Rodney Cox said someone discovered her Wednesday behind a building on Cicotte, near Livernois and Michigan Avenue.

"She was an unidentified black female who had suffered some serious injuries from the waist up, including facial injuries," Cox told WWJ Newsradio 950.

The woman was taken to a local hospital where she was listed in critical condition.

She remained unconscious as of 3:30 p.m., so police were not immediately able to speak with her about what happened.

Cox says the police department's sex crime unit is investigating because of the manner in which the victim was found, but it's not yet been determined if the woman was sexually assaulted.

Police are also investigating reports that the victim may have been run over by a vehicle.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Detroit police at 313-596-5440 or 313-596-1616.
