Smash-And-Grab Thieves Target Detroit Pharmacy

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police say thieves smashed their way through a pharmacy and dialysis center on Detroit's northwest side, likely after the drugs and prescriptions kept inside.

The incident happened early Friday morning at the Pembroke Plaza, along Livernois south of 8Mile Road, which includes the Nephrology Center of Detroit and the adjacent Victoria Pharmacy.

Police say the suspect or suspects smashes through the front of the building in a red truck, based on the parts left behind at the scene. Once inside, they apparently went for the drugs before fleeing the scene.

At this point, police don't have any description of the suspects.

Neighbors say the whole situation just doesn't sit right with them.

"This is my neighborhood, you know? I don't want -- we're a pretty solid neighborhood and these kind of things just don't happen in our area," said one woman who did not want to be named.

Another woman said she heard the commotion overnight, but didn't think much of it.

"I just heard a big boom last night, it had to be maybe 2, 3 o'clock in the morning, and I looked outside because we had just had our air conditioner repaired and I was like 'Holy crap! What happened to the air conditioner?' but it was still running," she said. "And I looked around the home, looked down the street, turned the alarm off, nothing was going on so I went back to bed."

No arrests have been made. An investigation is ongoing.
