Detroit Pistons Sign Free-Agent Guard Ray McCallum Jr.

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – The Detroit Pistons announced today that the team has signed free-agent guard Ray McCallum Jr. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

McCallum, 25, played 41 games last season with the San Antonio Spurs and the Memphis Grizzlies and averaged 3.3 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 11.6 minutes per game. The 36th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft by Sacramento, McCallum spent his first two seasons with the Kings and averaged 6.9 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 20.6 minutes in 113 games (40 starts). In 2014-15, he averaged 7.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 21.1 minutes in 68 games (30 starts) – all career highs.

The 6-3, 190-pound guard played three seasons at the University of Detroit Mercy where he was coached by his father, Ray McCallum Sr. In 102 career collegiate games, he averaged 15.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.7 steals and 34.5 minutes. He was a three-time All-Horizon League selection and was named Horizon League Player of the Year in 2013 when he averaged a league-high 18.7 points per game as a junior.
