Would-Be Carjacking Victim Fights Back, Shoots Suspect In Northwest Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police say a man who was being carjacked outside a northwest Detroit home thwarted the attack when he turned the tables on the suspect and opened fire.

The incident happened around 11:40 p.m. Monday in the 16800 block of Rutherford, near Greenfield and W. McNichols roads.

Police say the 37-year-old victim, who has a concealed pistol license, was outside of a home when the 28-year-old suspect attempted to take his car. The victim confronted the suspect, pulled out his gun and fired, according to police.

The suspect was struck once, but fled the scene on foot. He was arrested a short time later after he went to the hospital for treatment of his wound.

Charges are pending.

The would-be victim was not hurt.
