Police: Man Beaten Unconscious On Elementary School Baseball Field By Pair He Befriended In Detroit

HARRISON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Police say two suspects who befriended a man in Detroit and later beat him unconscious on a Macomb County elementary school baseball field have been taken into custody.

The victim, a 54-year-old Canton man, was found badly beaten around 10 a.m. on Friday, July 22 at Donald J Yacks Elementary School, on Union Lake Road in Mount Clemens, and transported to the hospital for treatment of facial injuries, numerous cuts and abrasions.

Over the course of the next day, detectives were able to interview the man, who said the whole thing started with a chance meeting in Detroit.

The victim told police he was in the city with another man when they befriended a couple guys who were trying to get to an address in Harrison Township.

The four men drove to various locations until the man's friend asked to be dropped off, according to police, leaving the victim alone with the two suspects. The victim told police that he drove the men to Yacks Elementary, where the three got out of the vehicle and walked to the dugout on one of the baseball fields.

Once there, the victim said he was kicked and beaten by the suspects, who left him unconscious. The suspects then fled the scene in the man's car, a 2014 Kia.

The man was able to give investigators a partial name and a description of one of the suspects who assaulted him. Detectives did a name-search using an internal database, and were able to identify a suspect -- 24-year-old  Shawn Edward Bilkovsky -- who was located in Holly, driving the victim's 2014 Kia. He was arrested without incident and the car was impounded.

On Tuesday, Bilkovsky, a Detroit resident, was video-arraigned in the 41B District Court of Clinton Township on charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm - less than murder, unarmed robbery, and unlawful driving away of a motor vehicle.

Bilkovsky remains jailed on a $25,000 cash-or-surety bond. He's due back in court on August 3.

Also on Tuesday, the second suspect was located and arrested. His name is being held pending arraignment.
