Police Still Seeking Tips In Jogger's Shooting Death: Suspect Likely To Change Behaviors

ROSE TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Michigan State Police are continuing to ask the public for help in locating the gunman who shot and killed a 31-year-old nurse as she was jogging along a rural Oakland County road.

Police say they initially received a great deal of support from the public, but they're still missing that vital piece of information that could lead them to Alexandra Brueger's killer.

Brueger, who regularly went for 10-mile runs, was killed last Saturday, July 30, around 2 p.m. in the vicinity of 11240 Fish Lake Road in Holly. Investigators say she collapsed on a resident's front lawn and died after being shot in the back.

"Alexandra was loved by family and many friends, and is greatly missed by all those who knew her," Lt. Michael Shaw said in a statement. "She was also a nurse at a local hospital who unselfishly cared for others in need every day and impacting the lives of many in the area."

Witnesses said a white or light-colored four-door sedan was seen traveling at a high rate of speed on Fish Lake Road around the time Brueger was killed, but police have yet to identify that vehicle.

"We are asking for information related to the person responsible for this incident or those who might have knowledge of the individual responsible for this tragic incident," said Shaw. "Information about suspicious persons or unusual vehicles in the area of Fish Lake Road could be extremely important."

Police say the suspect is likely exhibiting some noticeable behavior changes. Some of the possible changes since last Saturday include:

• Acting oddly or out of their normal character since this incident happened.
• Showing signs of internal distress, such as anxiety, nervousness, or irritability.
• An unexplained or stress induced illness.
• An above average interest in this incident since it has occurred.
• Has become more reclusive and anti-social.
• Has not shown up for work or missed regularly attended gatherings or meetings.
• Has unexpectedly changed their appearance.
• No longer utilizes one of their vehicles or has excessively cleaned the interior/exterior of their vehicle.
• Has started or increased a consumption of cigarettes, alcohol and/or drugs.
• Unexpected and last-minute travel or departed the area without giving a specific reason and/or destination location.

"We believe that someone may recognize some of these behavioral changes," said Shaw. "If you do, we ask that you contact us. Regardless of how insignificant you think your information might be, or whether you think we are already aware of it, we want to hear from you."

Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 248-584-5740, call the Michigan State Police Tip Line at 855-MICH_TIP, or submit a tip anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
