Flood Advisory Issued For Livingston, Washtenaw Counties

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Strong storms moving through the metro Detroit area could cause flooding in some surrounding areas, authorities say.

The National Weather Service issued an Areal Flood Advisory for both Livingston and Washtenaw Counties, effective until 9:45 p.m. on Friday.

Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms could cause streams to overflow in the advisory area. Up to two and a half inches of rain have already fallen.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Brighton, Chelsea, Dexter, Pinckney, Hamburg, Whitmore Lake, Unadilla, Hudson Mills metropark, Lakeland, Hudson Mills, Lyndon Township, Hell, Chilson, Island Lake State Recreation Area and Pinckney State Recreation Area.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, country roads, farmland and other low-lying spots.

Storms also rolled through parts of Macomb County, causing power outages, and power lines and trees to fall.

Nearly 4,000 residents are without power in northern Macomb County. Residents near Romeo, Ray Township and Leonard are in the dark due to damage caused by trees.

It's unclear exactly when power will be restored to the area.
