Officials Confirm Tornado Touchdown In Western Michigan [PHOTOS]

SAUGATUCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - Officials have confirmed a tornado touched down in western Michigan amid storms that caused power outages and some building and property damage.

The National Weather Service says the weak EF-0 tornado landed Friday afternoon in Allegan County's Saugatuck Township. The twister and accompanying storms heavily damaged a pole barn and sent a tree through the roof of a home.

No injuries have been reported.

Officials say the tornado had peak wind speeds around 80 miles per hour. It was on the ground for about two minutes and traveled approximately a quarter-mile.

The storms also brought heavy rain, with Grand Rapids receiving nearly two inches of rain in one hour.

It was the second tornado to touch down in Michigan in just two days. On Thursday, a tornado briefly hit the ground near rural Hermansville, in northern Michigan. No one was hurt, but trees were knocked down during the wild weather event — which was captured on video.
