Farmington Hills Residents Warned To Lock Doors, Windows Following Burglaries
FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) - Citizens who live and work in Farmington Hills are being warned to lock-up their cars and houses after a series of burglaries.
The crimes took place overnight Sunday and early Monday morning in the area of 12 Mile and Farmington roads. According to police, the suspect or suspects entered nearly a dozen unlocked vehicles and stole items. The cars were parked on New Castle, Thorny Brae, Green Willow and Hawberry.
In one case, the crook broke into a home while a family was sound asleep inside. Police say the suspect entered the home on Thorny Brae through an unlocked sliding door and stole a television. Two vehicles in the driveway of the home were also entered.
"At this time, it is believed that the suspect who committed the car burglaries is responsible for the home invasion, and it was a crime of opportunity due to the door wall being unlocked," police said in a statement.
Investigators say there have been numerous thefts from unlocked vehicles in the 14 Mile Road and Haggerty Road area, as well as the Middlebelt Road and I-696 area in the past week.
Police say residents should lock their vehicles and homes at all times, especially at night. Try to park vehicles in well-lit areas and never leave valuable items inside. If items must be left inside a vehicle, police suggest securing them in the trunk.
