The Snack Attack: Deep Fried Twinkies Could Quite Possibly Change Your Life [TASTE TEST]

What's more American than taking something that's perfectly fine on its own and dumping it straight into the deep fryer? I got nothing -- which is why these new Deep Fried Twinkies are pretty much the best thing to ever happen to snack cakes.

Hostess has brought the beloved state fair treats straight to our kitchen tables, thanks in part to Walmart, which is the only store you can buy these at... for now.  Reports say the frozen treats will be sold at other retailers in the coming months.

Deep Fried Twinkies come in two flavors, Original Golden and Chocolate, with seven in each pack. And you don't even need a deep fryer, just slide them in the oven and about eight minutes later you'll get a sweet, slightly crispy slice of heaven.

One thing is for sure, you'll never look at a Twinkie the same way ever again!

The strangest thing about this Twinkie is that it tastes more like the funnel cake coating than a Twinkie -- which I guess could be a plus depending on which way you're leaning. The outside felt like it would be crispy but once I bit in, it was more of a mushy texture. The taste actually reminded me of those french toast sticks you'd get for hot lunch in elementary school. The filling itself tastes like it's straight out of a Twinkie, with a perfect melty, warm consistency. I just wish there was a better creme-to-cake ratio. I feel like I had to bite through three inches of cake before reaching any of the creme. What would really make this Twinkie phenomenal is if you added a fruit-flavored syrup to amp up its slightly one-dimensional flavor.

Rating: 5 out of 10 -- It was very yummy, but didn't really taste like a Twinkie.

With this Twinkie, you get a double dose of chocolate! It starts with a golden Twinkie with a twist -- filled with chocolate creme instead of the regular vanilla filling. And the creme is decadent, too -- like the kind you'd find inside a gourmet chocolate donut, Yum Yum style. The cake is coated in a crumbly chocolate breading that has the light taste of cocoa powder. One bite and I feel like I'm riding a chocolate unicorn over a river of deliciousness. The creme-to-cake ratio is probably the same as the other deep fried Twinkie but is much more palatable because the chocolate flavor really stands out against the golden cake, instead of vanilla on vanilla. The one thing about this Twinkie, though, it that the chocolate leaves a weird aftertaste behind in your mouth.

Rating: 9 out of 10 -- Chocolate madness!
