62-Year-Old Motorcyclist Fatally Struck By Turning Vehicle

SHELBY TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A 62-year-old motorcyclist was killed Wednesday morning when police say he was struck by a turning vehicle.

The accident happened just before 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of 24 Mile and Hayes roads in Shelby Township.

According to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office, the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on 24 Mile Road and was going through the intersection of Hayes Road when it was struck by a yellow Dodge Caliber.

Police say the Caliber, driven by a 43-year-old Macomb Township woman, had been travelling westbound on 24 Mile Road and was in the process of turning southbound onto Hayes when the collision happened.

The motorcyclist was rushed to Henry Ford Macomb Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was identified only as a Shelby Township resident.

The other driver was uninjured.

The intersection remains partially closed as police continue to investigate the crash scene.
