The David Stott Building Like A Treasure Hunt For Dan Gilbert's Renovators

DETROIT (WWJ) - The David Stott building, a high-rise building in the Capitol Park district of Detroit, was vacant for some time, but in May of 2015 Dan Gilbert's company Bedrock purchased it and is in the process of renovating it.

During a tour of the building, Executive Vice President Dan Mullen said they like to keep a lot of the original architecture.

The details in the doors or some of the details in the plaster. That's the kind of fun stuff that we like to have and save. It's like you're looking for treasures every time you go into these old properties. You'll find a safe. You'll find an old door frames," said Mullen.

"Having to update the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and elevators and the HVAC," he said describing the significant work ahead before the re-opening set for fall 2018.

The David Stott will reopen as mixed use space including retail, offices and residential.

Bedrock has purchased more than 90 properties in the city.
