Westin Book Cadillac Hotel Evacuated Overnight Following 'Explosions'

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Westin Book Cadillac Hotel in Detroit was evacuated in the middle of the night after reports of underground explosions.

Thousands of guests were ushered from their beds to a sidewalk around 12:20 a.m. Thursday following what was described as a series of small explosions -- apparently the result of a blown underground DTE Energy transformer.

The blasts were heard several blocks away; one hotel guest said it sounded like "firework mortars."

Nearby buildings were also evacuated.

Police and emergency crews responded to the scene and the all-clear was given around 1:30 a.m.

No injuries were reported.
