Casting Call: Erebus Haunted House Looking To Hire Metro Detroit's Scariest People

PONTIAC (WWJ) - The creators of the Erebus Haunted Attraction in downtown Pontiac are looking to scare up some talent for this year's show.

Open auditions are being held Saturday and Sunday, from 1 to 5 p.m.,  at the venue on South Perry Street.

Creator Ed Terebus said most people who try out get a role somewhere in the haunted house. Actors are often Halloween fans or love makeup artistry, but some of the best performances often come from introverts.

"Boy, you put a little bit of makeup on them and you change the way they look -- you know, maybe that introverted person might have a personality that wants to come out of them, they just don't have the ability or know how to do it. But you get them in the haunted house and you tell them 'Hey, you can do this, this and this,' that personality will come out screaming," Terebus told WWJ's Scott Ryan.

"We had a guy who sat back, sat in the corner, didn't say nothing, but you gave him a chainsaw and kind of bloodied him up a bit and this guy was our number one actor for like five solid years," he said. "It was incredible."

To audition and apply, you must:
• Be at least 18 years old to apply and have valid state ID
• Have reliable transportation
• Be willing and able to stand for long periods of time
• Some jobs require more strength than others
• Costumes and make-up not required, but encouraged

Another casting call will take place September 10 and 11.

Halloween officially begins in Pontiac on Friday, September 23 when Erebus opens its doors for its 17th frightening season.
