1 Dead, 2 Injured After Boat Crashes Into Dock On Ottawa River

MONROE COUNTY (WWJ) - Multiple rescue agencies from two states responded to a deadly boat crash Monday morning on the Ottawa River in Monroe County, on the Ohio border.

Coast Guard Lieutenant Jennifer Knox telling WWJ Newsradio 950 that when incidents on the water happen near borders, it's no sweat for Coast Guard crews.

"From the Coast Guard sector standpoint - we work really well with our state partners as well as our Canadian counterparts -- when there is any sort of emergency or incident we're going to respond - we can work with our partners on the jurisdiction when it's close to a line like this -- we're not going to think about those things -- if there's any question, we're going to respond," says Knox.

One boater was pronounced dead on the scene.

"We had a boat that ran into a dock -- a 20-foot pleasure craft -- with four persons on board - which that resulted in one fatality and two people sent to the emergency room," said Knox.

The two injured boaters were taken to Toledo St. Vincent Mercy hospital-- a fourth victim refused treatment.

No word if alcohol or speed was involved.
