East Lansing Police Find 3 Missing Children At Father's Home

EAST LANSING (WWJ) - Police in East Lansing are investigating a possible parental kidnapping after three children reported missing from their beds were found 15 miles away at their father's home.

The children -- a 6-year-old girl and two 4-year-old boys -- were reported missing just after 6 a.m. Tuesday from the Deerpath neighborhood off Haslett and Hagadorn roads.

"We know the mom woke up this morning and when she went to check on her three children, they were all gone, missing from the home ... and there was a sliding back door open," East Lansing Police Lt. Scott Wrigglesworth told WWJ's Beth Fisher.

After speaking with the mother at the scene, Wrigglesworth said investigators immediately turned their attention to the children's father -- who lives miles away.

"We tried to locate dad via phone, he didn't answer his phone and so we traveled to where he lived and discovered the kids were safe with him," he said.

The children, who were unharmed, have since been reunited with their mother.

"We don't know what the story is here, how he got them or if he took them in the middle of the night or if there's more to the story -- we just don't know," said Wrigglesworth. "But we're with him now and we'll sort this whole thing out."

An investigation is ongoing.
