Police Investigate Shots Fired On I-96; 2 Injured

DETROIT (WWJ) - Two people are hospitalized after a freeway shooting early Tuesday morning in Detroit.

Michigan State Police were called, at around 1:25 a.m., about shots fired along I-96 near Greenfield.

Police said, victims were located, along with the victims' vehicle., Sinai Grace Hospital — one in temporary serious condition and the other in critical condition.

After speaking with some possible witnesses, investigators determined that the shooting began on Greenfield Road before it continued on the freeway.

Police have not said what may have led to the incident. No names have been released.

Going forward, Detroit police will be handling the investigation.

This shooting comes on the heels of a very violent holiday weekend in Detroit. There were at least three murders and nearly 30 non-fatal shootings. Police say despite those numbers, shootings are actually down this year compared to last year.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig is expected to speak about the violent weekend later Tuesday.
