Flint Getting $3.7 Million From Feds For 33 Firefighters

FLINT, Mich. (AP) – The city of Flint is getting $3.7 million from the federal government to hire firefighters.

Michigan’s U.S. senators say the money will be used to bring back 33 firefighters, raising the staff to 91. Sen. Debbie Stabenow says the money comes at a “critical time” for Flint, which still is recovering from lead-tainted water.
The money comes from a grant program run by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Fire Chief Raymond Barton says the city will be able to add fire protection to Flint’s south side.
