Truck Trying To Avoid Crossing Gates Struck By Amtrak Train; 2 Killed

WAYNE (WWJ) - Authorities say two people were killed when their vehicle was struck by an Amtrak train in Wayne.

The accident happened around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday on Venoy Road just south of Michigan Avenue.

According to police, a truck was attempting to go around the crossing gates, which were down, when it was struck by a passenger train.

One of the victims was identified as 58-year-old Shirley Kendricks, of Romulus. The other victim, a man, has not been named.

The Amtrak train, which was heading to Pontiac from Chicago, was stopped at the scene for hours. No one on board was injured.

The intersection was closed to traffic as police carried out an investigation, but has since reopened.
