Charges In Carjacking, Shooting Of Elderly Man Outside Detroit Liquor Store

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit man is facing a laundry list of charges in the carjacking and shooting of an 81-year-old man.

Police say Corey Hill, 25, robbed Herman Garth of his money and car at gunpoint outside Big Daddy's Liquor on Joy Road, just west of the Southfield Freeway, early in the morning of Aug. 30.

Police say Hill then shot Garth and drove away from the scene. A second suspect fled on foot.

The elderly man, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, was treated at a local hospital. He's expected to recover.

Hill was taken into custody just hours after his photo and description were released to the media on Monday.

He was scheduled to be arraigned in 36th District Court Tuesday on the following charges: carjacking; armed robbery; assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder; unlawful driving away – automobile; receiving and concealing stolen property – motor vehicle; possession of cocaine; carrying a concealed weapon; felon in possession – weapon; felon in possession – ammunition and felony firearm.

The second suspect has not yet been identified. He's described only as a black male.
