Man Suspected In Multiple Detroit-Area Rapes Faces New Charges In Allen Park

ALLEN PARK (WWJ/AP) - A  Redford Township man suspected in roughly three dozen Detroit-area sexual assaults and home invasions faces new charges.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office said 32-year-old Ikeie R. Smith was charged Tuesday with home invasion and three criminal sexual conduct counts stemming from a July 2015 incident in Allen Park. A second warrant was denied.

Prosecutors, meantime, are reviewing two warrants from Dearborn Heights.

Smith was jailed without bond after court hearings Friday in Garden City and Redford Township on charges of home invasion and sex crimes involving three women between 2014 and this year.

According to Michigan State Police, Smith has been linked to attempted sexual assaults, home invasions, attempted home invasion and "peeping Tom"-type crimes dating back to 2011 — totaling 34 cases.

Dearborn police say three cases have been confirmed in that city, and Prosecutor Kym Worthy said Tuesday she's awaiting additional warrant requests from several cities.

State police say DNA evidence was recovered in seven sexual assault cases.

Smith was caught in Dearborn last week, thanks to help of a citizen.

He has asked for a court-appointed lawyer and faces probable cause hearings next week.

It should be noted that the public may not see a photo of Smith any time soon.  Authorities have not released his mugshot, and the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office says that due to the "many investigations that are being conducted in connection with Smith and other victims," it is requesting that Smith's face not be photographed by the media during court proceedings.
