Accused Rapist Charged With Torture, Attempted Murder After Woman Escapes Detroit Home

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit man is facing torture and attempted murder charges for allegedly holding a woman in a home on the city's northwest side.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office issued the charges against 49-year old Alex Moore Wednesday morning.

Moore was taken into police custody on Sunday, a day after the victim was found beaten and raped near Schoolcraft and Hartwell.

According to police, the woman was held against her will in a home for two days. She was able to escape around 3 a.m. Saturday and flagged down a passing car for help. She remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Moore was arraigned in 36th District Court Wednesday afternoon one count of torture and one count of assault with intent to murder and remains held on a $200,000 cash/surety bond.

He's due back in court for a probable cause conference on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 8:30 a.m.
