Tour de Troit: Thousands Of Bicyclists To Take Over Detroit Streets On Saturday

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit is known as the Motor City but on Saturday, thousands of people will turn it into the Bike City.

The 15th annual Tour de Troit kicks off Saturday at 9 a.m. in Roosevelt Park near the old train station.

More than 7,000 riders are expected to take part in either the 25 mile ride or 62 mile ride, which takes bicyclists to the midtown area, over to the east side and around Belle Isle before heading back through downtown.

It's a unique opportunity to legally "take over" the streets of Motown.

Tour de Troit was created to raise awareness of biking as a mode of transportation, publicize the growing greenways network in Detroit and raise funds for greenway development in Detroit.
