Input Sought On Protected Bicycle Lanes Along Detroit Street

DETROIT (AP) - A meeting is scheduled to get public input on proposed protected bicycle lanes along a section of Michigan Avenue in Detroit.

The city and the Michigan Department of Transportation will host Thursday's meeting at UAW Local 900, 38200 Michigan Avenue.

The pilot project would add protected bike lanes between Livernois and Cass. Existing bike lanes adjacent to motor vehicle travel lanes would be moved inside the parking lane to allow bike riders to travel next to the curb.

Staff from the city's Public Works, Traffic Engineering, Planning and Development and Neighborhoods offices will attend the open house.

Bicycling on streets and pathways in Detroit has become more popular with city and suburban residents in recent years.
