The crash happened around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday on eastbound I-696 just east of Orchard Lake Road in Farmington Hills.

Circumstances leading to the crash weren't immediately clear, but it ended with an overturned semi. Emergency crews were called to the scene and started to extricate the driver, who was trapped in the cab, when they realized the man was dead.

The victim was identified by his license and is from Albion, Indiana, according to police. His name was not released.

Traffic is getting by the crash scene in the left two lanes, but MDOT says delays are expected to last hours. Both the north and southbound ramps from Orchard Lake Road to I-696 remain closed. Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
