Middle School Briefly Evacuated Over Strange Odor

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A Macomb County middle school was partially evacuated Tuesday morning after a strange odor was detected in the building.

The incident unfolded around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at L'Anse Creuse Middle School on Hickey Road, near Gratiot Avenue and 24 Mile Road in Chesterfield Township.

School officials ordered the evacuation after noticing an odor that smelled like fuel.

Emergency crews were called to the scene as a precaution. The "all clear" was given around 9 a.m. and students were allowed back inside the building.

A nearby auto salvage yard was responsible for the smell, according to police and fire officials.
