Report: Kmart Closing More Stores, 7 In Michigan

DETROIT (WWJ) - Kmart is ready to turn out the blue lights at several stores in Michigan.

A formal announcement could come Tuesday, but Business Insider says Kmart will close 64 stores in 28 states by the end of the year.

Michigan stores reportedly on the list to close are located in Fenton, Jackson, Alpena, Sault Ste. Marie, Byron Center, Grand Rapids and Manistee.

Liquidation sales could begin later this week, with the doors closing for good in December.

Earlier this year, Sears Holdings Corp., which owns Kmart, announced it was closing 68 Kmart stores and 10 Sears stores as it looks to restore profitability. The ailing company, based in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, had said in February that it would accelerate the closing of unprofitable stores following a "challenging" holiday season.
