Protests Erupt In Violence In Charlotte Leaving 1 Dead

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Protests in North Carolina against the fatal police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott continued into night two on Wednesday, leaving one dead and several injured.

CMPD Police Chief Kerr Putney confirmed to Charlotte CBS affiliate WBTV that a person had been shot and killed Wednesday night.

The protests began shortly before 7 p.m. at the corner of Trade and Tryon streets.

The group stayed stationary for a short period of time before marching down Trade Street to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, WBTV reported.

Hundreds were expected throughout the evening as Charlotte-Mecklenburg police prepared for another long night.

Charlotte officials are attempting to "change the narrative" after violent protests in the city Tuesday following the shooting death of the black man at the hands of police officers.

Charlotte Medic tweeted that the person was injured Wednesday night but didn't give details.

The service says it has taken eight patients - seven law-enforcement officers and one civilian - to area hospitals during protests over the police shooting of a black man.
