Authorities: Tree Trimmer Dies After Fall In Warren

WARREN (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a 46-year-old tree trimmer has died after he fell about 35 feet while working on a tree in metro Detroit.

Warren police Detective Sgt. Stephen Mills says the man was cutting branches near utility power lines on Monday when he fell. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, The Macomb Daily reported.

Detroit-based DTE Energy Co. contracts tree trimmers to perform such work. DTE spokeswoman Stephanie Beres says in a statement: "Our hearts and prayers go out to the family during his difficult time." She says the safety of workers is "our number one priority at all times."

Co-workers identified the victim as Brian Kellerman of Westland, a 20-year industry veteran who worked for Kappan Tree Service in Caro, according to the newspaper.
