The tragic death of José Fernández over the weekend left the sports world in a complete state of shock.

The Miami Marlins canceled their game against the Atlanta Braves on Sunday when it was found that Fernández, 24, died in an overnight boat crash.

The Marlins were back on the field with heavy hearts on Monday night to take on the New York Mets. The players all wore No. 16 jerseys in honor of Fernández, a number that will be retired following the game.

Dee Gordon knocked a long home run to right field as the first batter of the game for the Marlins. He walked teary-eyed across the plate into the arms of his teammates in the dugout.

A classy and emotional moment that will go down as one of the top sports moments of the year.
