Police Seek Tips In Case Of Man Found Dead, Burning In Detroit Street

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police have identified the victim of a gruesome crime — and now they're searching for his killer.

Detroit Police Officer Shanelle Williams says police and fire were called out on a report of a body burning in the middle of a Detroit street, just after 12:18 a.m. Tuesday, just south of the former Michigan State Fairgrounds on the city's west side.

Crews put out the fire, on Adeline Street between Bauman and Ralston, and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The victim has since been identified as a 25-year-old man. His name is not being released at this time.

Williams says it's still unclear whether the victim died in the fire or was already dead when he was set ablaze.

"This (case) definitely is on the more troubling side as are all homicides, deaths or injuries in the city of Detroit," Williams added in an interview with WWJ's Sandra McNeill.

There are no suspects and investigators are hoping tips from the public will help them solve this case. A cash reward of up to $2,500 is available depending on the information provided.

Anyone who knows anything  is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. Tips may also be submitted online at this link, or by texting CSM and the tip to CRIMES (2746370).  A tipster's identity is always 100 percent anonymous.
