1 Million Americans Already Done With Christmas Shopping

DETROIT (WWJ) You know those annoying signs and memes that remind you months in advance how many days it is until Christmas -- Here's an even better way to start your Friday feeling like you're already behind.

Realize that 34 million Americans have begun their holiday shopping, and one million of them are already finished.

That's according to a study by Creditcards.com. Analyst Matt Schulz says the rest of us -- the procrastinators -- tend to be annoyed by that statistic.

But deep down, people know that shopping early is better than waiting until shelves are bare.

"Even thought people might not like the idea of starting their holiday shopping in September, or October, it's probably not the best idea to wait until December 20 to get started either," Schulz said.

Three out of four Americans are annoyed the holiday shopping season keeps getting earlier, he added.

And while 11 percent of Americans now make their purchases via mobile phone, nearly 60 percent of Americans would still rather holiday shop in stores instead of online.

"I think there's something about that instant gratification of actually having the physical item in your hand and buying it, it can't really be matched by online shopping," Schulz said.
